Don't let the cover fool you. This is an awesome book! It reminded me quite a bit of the Fablehaven series. It is fairly thick, but an easy read. I got through it in three days.
Jacob's grandfather Abe loves to tell his grandson stories from when he fought in WW2. All about the monsters and how he helped kill them off to keep everyone safe. He also tells about the orphanage he grew up in off the coast of England, set upon a little island next to no where. The children there weren't like normal children. One had to wear lead shoes to keep her from floating away into the clouds. Another, a boy, had a whole hive of bees living inside of him. There was a boy you couldn't even see and a girl that could manipulate plants to grow. Jacob finds these stories much to far fetched until his grandfather suddenly dies of mysterious causes and leaves behind a box with pictures he claims as proof to his wild stories. Jacob sets out to visit the island his grandfather supposedly once lived on. What he finds there will set his life into a whirlwind of tough choices and adventure.
I highly recommend this book! The author, Ransom Riggs actually collected all the pictures shown in the book and wrote the story around them. There are three books to the series so far. Go on and get started :)
