My first flight took off on July 9 at 11am and my last flight landed about 220pm on July 10. It was a very long 36 hours and I'm 100% sure this is what I looked like walking out of the final terminal...
And while spending 9.5 hours straight on an airplane doesn't sound appealing to anyone, it could have been so much worse. I sat next to a really nice guy named Ben and we talked for the majority of the flight. He speaks 6 different languages! How cool is that? He also attended Stanford, which is very impressive. This guy knew his stuff and it was a pleasure talking with him for so long. Not to mention one of the flight attendants looked like David Beckham and the co-pilot looked like a younger version of Prince William...NBD...
"Can I get you anything else?"
"Why, yes, I will be flying this air-craft today"
^^me^^
So the last 10 days have been pretty amazing, not gonna lie. I am teaching myself German via the DuoLingo App on my Kindle. It's great because it has you write things in English and German as well as multiple choice and reading. It's the best App I've found and I've already studied over 130 words! I have taken to the streets, gotten lost and then gotten un-lost all by myself multiple times. A map is very handy as well as the guts to ask people on the street for directions. I've been to a language-exchange, church, rock climbing, a lake, auditioned for a community choir and seen Bach's grave. This town's history is rich and the people so diverse. I met a guy from Tanzania and girl from Taiwan all in the same night if that tells you anything. I haven't completely decided if I'm going to start a new blog to tell ya'll all about it or if I'll just keep it on this one. You'll be the first to know:)
This week we are getting ready to leave for Belgium for a couple weeks.
an understatement, really
It's a house swap, something I've never done before, but that's how vacations are usually done here because there really aren't a whole lot of hotels and its cheaper besides. Not sure whats in store. Lots of pictures and sight seeing I hope! It will be a birthday to remember!
Today is the caboose to a week that has been T-to-the-OASTY. Me-OH-My!
It has been very warm these last few days, enough so it excuses the fact that I haven't done much. We mostly lay around and try not to drown in our own sweat like poor Donald here...
It takes some getting used to before it's normal that there isn't any air-conditioning or any ice cubes. Cold showers, swimming at the lake and daily trips to the ice cream shop at the end of the street have been keeping everyone sane. Haha :)
I hope this post finds everyone enjoying life as much as I am. God is so good and I'm counting my blessings every day that I have ended up in this opportunity.
